The power of a testimony

I'm sure you're aware that in a court of law, evidence is a crucial aspect of any case. Without evidence, everything would be hearsay -- information that cannot actually be substantiated by truth. This is where testimonies can prove to be very powerful. A testimony attests to truth, it attests to the validity of an event and the credibility of a witness.

But what happens when words aren't enough? Sometimes, the actions of a person can be just as powerful as words; sometimes a life (the culmination of events) can be the testimony needed to change the course of a case forever.

Before I gave it to Christ, my life was a testament to how broken and empty I was. I struggled with many things: low self-esteem, negative relationships, lust, self-hatred, depression, suicidal ideation... the list goes on. I was so, utterly broken, longing for hope in empty places, empty people, and empty things.

I was on my way to nowhere, hopelessly questioning the purpose of my existence. I was condemned to death and shackled in a prison of inadequacy... Until the blood of Jesus set me free. His sacrifice on the cross was the testimony my case needed to be redeemed and saved from eternal judgement.

See, the blood of Jesus spoke on my behalf. The blood of Jesus testified for me when my empty attempts to redeem my own life failed. The blood of Jesus set me free from my prison of inadequacy and brokenness -- and I'm not ashamed to talk about it because the Bible says we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony (1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Revelation 12:11).

It's not just about me. I don't share my testimony because I want people to feel bad for me, nor am I doing it purely for the sake of being relatable. The testimony of a key witness in a case can literally change the course of judgement. It can alter the jury's decision. It can change the verdict over a life. Jesus is my key witness. And I share my testimony to let you know there is freedom and victory available for you, too.

Friend, you do NOT need to be perfect or "holy enough" or "better" to be accepted by God. He wants you just as you are. He loves you just as you are. In fact, the Bible says that "WHILE we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8, emphasis added). He's not waiting for you to "get right" in order for him to save you. He's waiting for you to call out to him.

In your brokenness, in your addiction, in your self-hatred, in your depression, in your anxiety, in your doubt, skepticism, fear... In your darkness he can be your Light.

And if you're willing to accept him, you can say this prayer:

"Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for sending your Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for my sins. I admit that I am broken and sinful and in need of rescuing, and I invite you into my life to set me free. Please cleanse me and make me whole. Thank you. In Jesus' name I pray, amen."

Dear one, if you prayed that prayer sincerely, I fully believe that you have received the glorious gift of salvation and that you've been ransomed by the perfect blood of Jesus Christ.
