Have you ever heard of the Law of Attraction? If so, you would know that it's extremely powerful. It operates on the belief that positive thoughts reinforce positive outcomes, and negative thoughts reinforce negative outcomes. Essentially, the Law of Attraction states that one has the ability to attract what he/she believes.
Although it has been applied heavily in the secular world, the Law of Attraction is very powerful because it engages the principals of faith and action. The Law of Attraction actually has Biblical basis (Proverbs 23:7, "As a man thinks in his heart so is he") -- and the Word of God cannot lie (Numbers 23:19). So when anyone employs the principal of faith (whether or not he/she realizes it), powerful things can occur.
The Bible states that faith is "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1). I love the duality of this verse and the seeming contradiction: How can faith, something intangible, be the substance of something that doesn't physically exist? How can faith, something unseen, be evidence for things not seen? I believe the author phrased the verse this way because the language used here speaks to the nature of faith and why it has such a potent effect upon our lives. When left to secular matters, choosing to have faith will never be the logical option. If that weren't the case, we wouldn't choose to fulfill our desires with worldly things via worldly efforts. But when we dare to have faith, no matter how unlikely, we subject our problems to inconceivable solutions.
Did you know that in the Bible, Jesus marveled at unbelief? (Mark 6:6). He was astonished by the fact that those who knew him and had witnessed him perform miracles in the past did not believe in his power. Jesus went around different towns performing different miracles, but when he got to Nazareth (his hometown/the place where people knew of his him & his power) he literally could not perform miracles because of the people's unbelief. Their unbelief shocked him. In fact, it took the laying of his hands (an unnecessary direct transference of his power, given the miracles he'd preformed in the past) in order for a few sick people to be healed (Mark 6:5). In other words, many more miracles could have been performed, but a lack of faith hindered the miraculous from manifesting.
Ephesians 3:20-21 states, "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory..." (emphasis added). This is one of my favorite verses. It reveals that God is able to wow us beyond our wildest dreams, but it also speaks volumes about the way God works and how we tend to limit him to our own finite understanding.
God is spirit. He is not confined to the natural realm like we are. Asking and thinking are natural actions that require logic; when you think about something, your thoughts echo in the chamber of your own consciousness. Our logic is often linear and confined. We are limited and not fully able to understand the breadth of the mystery of God -- and this is where our faults oftentimes lie. But when we tap into the frequency of faith, we can shift things in the spiritual realm that have consequences in the natural realm.
Faith is a mindset that you must align yourself with in order to see the miraculous made manifest.
Although we cannot see it with our eyes, the spiritual realm is real and has a direct effect upon our everyday lives. The currency of Heaven is faith: the more faith you have, the more room you allow for God to work. God is not found in logic or strategy. Oftentimes, he's found in the "maybe moments" or the "what ifs" of life because those environments are conducive for faith to flourish. But the choice is yours. The key to unlocking the promises God has for you is in aligning your mind with that of Christ's.
Remember: relegating faith to the dimension of logic will never make sense because faith is not meant to be confined to the dimension of logic. It is the "evidence of things unseen;" as in, what you ask God for in prayer already exists (2 Cor. 1:20). But faith equips you with the disposition needed to rightly approach the Lord because "without faith it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews 11:6).
Just like in Nazareth due to unbelief, the power of God is greatly restricted only when we don't believe. Unbelief is the enemy of blessing. God can and will move powerfully in your life, but you must allow him to do so through your faith!
